Base ten blocks can be used to teach a wide variety of concepts; the focus of this course is specifically on multi-digit multiplication. In this course you will learn how to build students' conceptual understanding of the role of place value in multiplication using the hands-on manipulative before they move on to the standard algorithm in 5th grade and beyond.
In this two-hour course you will learn how base ten blocks can be used to reinforce key multiplication concepts including:
• The Commutative Property and Inverse Operations
• Multiplying Single-Digit Numbers by 10
• The Distributive Property
• Relationships Between Multiplication and Area
The course combines videos and activities using hands-on or virtual manipulatives. In addition, free activities are included that you can use right away!
